Eltham GPO
Say it quietly, and make sure anyone within earshot is standing clear of fragile objects, but an oasis of laid back cool has sprung up on SE9‘s parched pub scene. CareGrow
The Great Taste awards have been described as the ‘Oscars’ of the food world and the ‘epicurean equivalent of the Booker Prize’. Competition is fierce and entries are scrutinised by over 400 judges and 38 food writers. Attaining the Gold Award is widely recognised as a measure of outstanding culinary achievement. You may be surprised to learn that a local company has won six of these awards over the past few years (including the coveted Three Star Award) for its innovative range of chilli sauces, relishes and preserves. You may be even more surprised to learn that this company grows most of its produce in a back garden in Avery Hill. The company is Caregrow and they have now been tickling the palates of locals for over seven years. The man behind the company is Steve Page and we caught up with him to find out more about Eltham’s very own saucerer in chief.

It is here that the Eltham bell ringers meet every Tuesday evening to continue a centuries-old (and peculiarly English) tradition. We decided it was time to find out more about this anonymous band of ringers who weekly serenade the good folk of SE9.
